Will Artificial Intelligence Take Over Your Job?

Artificial intelligence took the spotlight today as the second annual AI Summit gathered global experts and local professionals under the theme Efficiency at Scale.

The message this year was clear: AI is no longer just something to talk about. It’s something to use.

Maynor Larrieu, Managing Director of Avant Garde, said the goal is to help Belizeans better understand and apply the technology. “So for us that’s very important because we want the Belizean general public who are curious, interested and just generally interested in AI to have the opportunity to hear from global AI experts… I think AI is not going to replace you, but AI is going to empower you to be more efficient, to be more effective.”

Across the region, experts say the shift is already happening fast. David Cabrera of CENPROMYPE said: “Last year we were talking about the importance of AI, in one year we have passed from talking about AI to act and passed to use the AI as a productivity skill for MSMEs.”

In tourism, leaders warned that businesses must adapt as travellers increasingly rely on AI tools to plan trips. Efren Perez, President of the Belize Tourism Industry Association, said: “People are using ChatGPT and AI right now to build travel itineraries… it is important to let hoteliers know that they need to start to input things on the web through blogs, through imagery, through social media.”
