Vigil for Slain Town Council Workers
San Ignacio Mayor Earl Trapp has announced a candlelight vigil following this morning’s fatal shooting of two Town Council employees. The vigil is set for Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Macal Park.
“ I just honest and sincerely on behalf of our council, I would like to extend our heartfelt and sincerest condolences to their families for their big loss, you know,” Trapp said.
The victims, identified as Manuel Smith and Fidencia Osgaya, were security guards who had just finished their overnight shift at the market. Trapp said, “They were just getting off the work of duty at 10, 10 to 6 this morning. And, um, I believe Mr. Smith offered her a ride home, and, um, unfortunately this tragic, violent outcome took away their lives.”
Police say the attack occurred just after 6:00 a.m. in front of Nazarene Primary School. Both victims were found inside a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene. More than a dozen spent shells were recovered.
No suspects have been identified, and the motive remains unclear as investigations continue.
