Battle of the Districts: Belize’s Best Young Athletes Face Off at Super Nationals
The National Sports Council is launching a brand-new national youth sporting competition called “Super Nationals 2026.” The multi-sport event is scheduled to take place from June twenty-ninth to July third and will bring together some of Belize’s top young athletes from across the country. The initiative, announced in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports and national sporting federations, will feature volleyball, basketball, football, and athletics. According to the National Sports Council, the competition is designed to create a stronger platform for youth development, talent identification and national competition. Students fifteen years old and under who are enrolled in school will be eligible to participate. Each of Belize’s six districts will assemble teams made up of their best young athletes to compete at the national level. The council says district-wide tryouts will be held to ensure fair and competitive team selection with dates expected to be announced soon. Officials also emphasized that Super Nationals will not replace existing federation tournaments but instead serve as an additional opportunity for young athletes to gain exposure and experience while promoting district pride and national unity through sports.
