Self-Defense Claim After Woman Shot in Rural Land Dispute

A land dispute in Lemonal Village has escalated into gunfire, leaving a young woman hospitalized and a community on edge. Twenty-one-year-old Stacey Middleton is recovering at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital after being shot in the leg during a confrontation on Tuesday. Police say the incident unfolded while licensed gun owner Rupert Gentle was clearing land with a bulldozer, work he claims he was authorized to carry out. Gentle told investigators he fired in self-defense after being confronted by Middleton and others. Police moved quickly to detain him and seized his firearm along with fifteen rounds of ammunition. No charges have been filed yet, as investigators continue working to determine what triggered the violence. Middleton’s family declined to comment, but tensions remain high as police try to prevent further flare-ups in the village.
