UDP “Gearing Up” for 2027 Municipals, PUP Signals Confidence
Municipal elections are ten months away, and the two major parties are already making moves.
On Tuesday, Sheena Pitts said the United Democratic Party is “gearing up” and the party is ready for 2027’s ballot polls. “we are a party that strikes when the iron is hot,” she said.
Pitts said names are being floated internally, but the party is not ready to go public as yet. “We will do so after we have all our ducks in a row and we are able to do so strategically in each municipality,” she added.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister John Briceño confirmed today that the PUP will endorse the current Orange Walk Town Council and hold a convention in Belize City, where two young men are already being considered for the mayoral race.
“We have many of the present councils that are going to run again,” Briceño added. “We’re going to have some conventions in some areas.”
Municipal elections are scheduled for March 2027. For the UDP, many are already calling it a “measuring stick”.
