Price of ‘Dollar Van’ To Increase
In the past week, two taxi associations have announced fare hikes, citing rising fuel costs and market pressures.
The Belize Dollar Van Taxi Association notified the public last Friday that adult van fares will increase from $2 to $3 effective June 1, 2026, while fares for children will remain at $1.
Meanwhile, the Bullet Tree Taxi Association moved faster, implementing new rates as of May 23. Under the updated fares, passengers travelling from Bullet Tree to San Ignacio will now pay $4 per person, while trips to Santa Elena have increased to $7 per person. Children four years and older will now be charged $3, and passengers requesting stops along the route will pay an additional $1 per stop. House drop-offs will cost $5, with additional charges depending on the location.
The fare hikes come on the heels of sharp fuel price adjustments announced last week.
Regular gasoline jumped by more than a dollar per gallon last week, while premium and diesel dropped, briefly making premium cheaper than regular. But by the end of the workweek, premium surged again, climbing 93 cents and reclaiming its position as the most expensive grade at the pump. Premium now sits 63 cents per gallon above regular.
