Shot on the Way to Work: Another Gun Attack in Broad Daylight

Police have detained one person and are seeking two others in connection with a shooting incident this morning on Cleghorn Street in Belize City. Police say Bermudian Landing resident Maleek Sutherland was on his way to work when an SUV pulled up beside him and a passenger opened fire. Sutherland was hit and rushed to the hospital for treatment.

“Police have detained one male person and are seeking two others as a part of an ongoing investigation into a shooting incident which resulted in the injury of twenty-five-year-old Maleek Sutherland of Bermudian Landing Village. The investigation commenced around six twenty-five a.m. when reports were received of shots being fired on Cleghorn Street. What we have gathered is that Mr. Sutherland was on his way to his place of employment when he was accused by an induvial who was in an SUV and that individual fired several shots which resulted in the injury of Mr. Sutherland. As stated one person has been detained and two others are being sought. A motive is being explored, however that will be disclosed wen it becomes necessary to do so.”

 

Smith says, Sutherland was not known to police.
