Police Officer Granted Bail After Gas Station Assault Case
A routine traffic stop between two police officers turned into a physical confrontation at a Belize City gas station, landing one officer in court on an assault charge.
Police Constable Louis Pascascio is accused of running a red light on Saint Thomas Street before pulling into a Puma gas station on Freetown Road. Another officer, PC Jose Mejia, followed him and attempted to carry out a traffic stop.
According to Mejia, Pascascio ignored repeated commands to stop, moved toward him, and then slapped him, causing a cut to his lip. Mejia then subdued and detained him at the scene.
Thirty-one-year-old Pascascio has been charged with aggravated assault and appeared in court today, where he was granted bail with a condition that he remain at least 100 feet away from Mejia. He is scheduled to return to court on July 30 for disclosure.
Police records also show Pascascio previously faced a firearm-related assault charge involving national athlete Shaun Gill in 2024, though that case was later withdrawn.
