Cop vs Cop Clash at Gas Station Ends in Court

A routine traffic stop between two police officers quickly spiraled into a confrontation at a Belize City gas station, now both the incident and its fallout are under the spotlight. Police Constable Louis Pascascio is accused of running a red light on Saint Thomas Street before pulling into a Puma station on Freetown Road. Another officer, PC Jose Mejia, followed and moved to stop the vehicle. What happened next turned physical. Mejia says Pascascio ignored commands to stop, advanced toward him, and then slapped him, leaving a cut to his lip. Mejia responded by subduing and detaining him at the scene. It was only afterward, he said, that he realized the suspect was a fellow officer. Pascascio, thirty-one, was charged with aggravated assault and appeared in court, where he was granted bail with a condition to stay a hundred feet away from Mejia. He’s due back in court on July thirtieth for disclosure. This isn’t his first run-in with the law. Pascascio previously faced a firearm assault charge involving Belizean athlete Shaun Gill in 2024, though that case was later withdrawn.
