The Ministry of Immigration has filed a police report and formally requested an audit into the 160K in missing funds at the department, Immigration Ministry CEO Tanya Santos confirmed to News 5 today.

Santos said a preliminary report into the matter was completed last week and that Cabinet has been briefed. This week, authorities took the next step by engaging police and the national audit department.

She said the preliminary findings revealed multiple instances of what she described as “criminal activity”, and that those specific instances have been handed to police to investigate further.

“So we highlighted instances of those activities to them so that they can come in and do a deeper dive, a deeper investigation, and find out more details of what was going on,” she said.

For now, the investigation is focused on one individual, though Santos left open the possibility that could change as the probe develops. “It’s one individual until the investigation leads elsewhere,” she said.
