Arrested At Sea: Man Attempts to Evade SOE

The Belize Coast Guard says it assisted police in the interception and detention of a person of interest under the ongoing State of Emergency (SOE) after the individual allegedly attempted to evade authorities by sea.

Rear Admiral Greg Soberanis, Commandant of the Belize Coast Guard, said the operation was launched after the Coast Guard received a request for assistance from the police department.

“We were brought into the picture and the operations centre activated our quick reaction team, who pursued the vessel and person of interest and were able to make the intercept,” Soberanis said.

The fugitive was subsequently detained, the vessel seized, and the man handed over to the Police Department for further investigation.

No further details have been provided on whether additional charges will be laid.
