One Claims Victim, One Charged with Attempted Murder
A dispute over a repair job has landed one man behind bars and another fighting serious injuries tonight. Police say what started as a disagreement over payment for an amplifier and deck repair quickly turned violent at a shop on the corner of Baymen Avenue and Saint Joseph Street in Belize City. During the confrontation, a machete was pulled and both men were injured. Investigators say thirty-five-year-old Nelson Nolberto reported that he had paid for the work back in 2025, but when the two crossed paths, the argument escalated. Nolberto told police the other man retrieved a machete from his vehicle and attacked him, leaving him with chop wounds, including to the neck. Forty-five-year-old Phillip Goff, an electronic technician, has since been arrested and charged with attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm, and dangerous harm. He was taken to court today, where no plea was entered. Bail was denied, and he has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison until July twenty-eighth, 2026. But in court, Goff told a different story, claiming he was the victim and acted in self-defense after being attacked. Police continue to investigate the incident.
