Gunman Opens Fire in Dangriga: 19-Year-Old Critically Injured
A late-night shooting in southern Belize has left a young man fighting for his life tonight. Nineteen-year-old Jason Marin remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition after gunfire erupted around nine p.m. in the Rivas Estate area of Dangriga Town. Police say Marin was entering a property when a gunman inside a passing vehicle opened fire, striking him multiple times before speeding away. Investigators are actively working to uncover what led to this targeted attack and track down those responsible. Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith has more on the active investigation.

“Police are investigating a shooting incident which resulted in the injury of nineteen-year-old Jason Marin of Dangriga Town, which occurred at around nine p.m. in the Rivas Estate area of Dangriga Town. Marin is reported to have been entering a property when an individual who was on board a vehicle stopped and fired several shots resulted in his injury.”

“No motive has been established, but what I will say is that the property that Mr. Marin was entering is one that has been frequented by police as it relates to anti-drugs and weapons operation.”
