“Just My Mum Saying She Misses Me”: Man Finally Gets Birthday Card

After everything it took to get here, the birthday card sent by an 82-year-old mother in the United States finally made it to her son in Belize.

The man confirmed receiving the card on May 27 after days of delays. Images of the card show a simple birthday message with “Miss you, love Mom, xxoo & Happy Birthday” written inside.

The man said that customs officials “actually opened up the envelope, and you can see what’s in there, just my mum saying she’s missing me.”

His mother paid a hefty price tag to ensure it arrived on time for his birthday. When asked why she would spend that much on a birthday card, the man simply said, “That was her choice. She’s 82, I can’t see her, she’s not doing the best, and she wanted to make sure I got the birthday card. That’s all.”

The man was initially told he owed over BZ$210 in customs clearance fees. The package was pulled back multiple times before eventually being released for a $10 fee.

“My mom and I talk every day, but getting the card, it’s definitely something special,” he said.
