A ship carrying 1,700 tonnes of food and humanitarian aid collected in Mexico and Belize has docked in Cuba.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz‑Canel confirmed the arrival on Sunday, noting the support came from government officials, allies, and Cubans abroad. “We appreciate the supportive embrace in such difficult times,” he wrote on X.

The delivery comes as Cuba endures one of the worst economic crises in its recent history. A U.S. energy blockade that took effect in late January cut off oil shipments to the island, leading to widespread power outages and straining food supplies.

Cuba’s Foreign Affairs Minister Bruno Rodríguez called the shipment a gesture of brotherhood, saying it carried immense significance for Cubans who are, in his words, “heroically resisting the brutal energy blockade, the extreme intensification of the embargo, and the military threat from the U.S. government.”

The Belizean and Mexican shipment is one of several making their way to the island in recent weeks. Colombia’s Presidential Agency for Cooperation said Friday that a vessel carrying 100,000 tonnes of supplies, including food, had departed for Cuba. A separate aid ship from Mexico and Uruguay docked in Havana at the end of last month
