Crack Cocaine Seized in Twin Operations Across Southern Belize

A recent string of drug seizures is signaling that police are tightening their grip beyond Belize City. After May’s major cocaine bust, officers have turned up the pressure in the districts, this time intercepting smaller but significant amounts of crack cocaine in Cayo and Toledo. The latest operations led to the arrests of Nelson Cal in Bella Vista Village and John Gabriel in Punta Gorda, both now facing drug charges. Assistant Superintendent Stacy Smith breaks down how these targeted moves are shaping the broader anti-drug effort.

“Police have formally arrested and charged twenty-six-year-old Nelson Cal of Bella Vista village for the offense of possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply after an operation conducted by GI3 personnel which led to the discovery of a plastic bag which contained thirty-four small foils each containing suspected crack cocaine in the pants pocket of Mr. Cal. The drugs when weighed amounted to three point four grams. Police have formally arrested and charged sixty-five-year-old John Gabriel of Jose Maria Nunez street Punta Gorda for the offense of possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply. This arrest follows a search of Mr. Gabriel on Friday twelfth June as he exited a terminal with a manila envelope. A search of the envelope led to the discovery of two transparent plastic bags containing suspected crack cocaine amounting to fifty-seven point seven nine grams.”

These latest operations bring the total suspected cocaine seized in the past month to more than two hundred forty three grams.
