Two in Custody After Targeted Police Sweep in Ambergris Caye
Police in San Pedro say their latest push to get illegal guns off the streets is already producing results. Acting on intelligence, officers moved in on a home in Ambergris Caye, executing a search warrant that led to the arrest of two residents. The operation is part of a wider crackdown aimed at curbing gun violence countrywide. Assistant Superintendent Stacy Smith explains how the targeted search unfolded and what investigators found.

“Police have formally arrested and jointly charged Balbina Camara and Melissa Mendez of San Pedro Town for the offense of kept firearm without a gun license and kept ammunition without a gun license. The arrest follows the execution of a search warrant at their residence on Wednesday by intelligence and operation personnel which resulted in the discovery of a Ruger brand nine millimeter pistol which contained six live rounds of nine millimeter ammunition.”
This arrest follows separate operations earlier this month in Punta Gorda and Unitedville which led to the arrest of six individuals and the seizure of two pistols and several rounds of ammunition.
