UDP Signals Early Show of Force for 2027 Municipal Elections
The United Democratic Party is signaling it’s gearing up early for the 2027 municipal elections, and in a big way. Party Chair Sheena Pitts announced today that more than ninety hopefuls have already thrown their hats in the ring, pointing to what she says is strong interest and momentum on the ground. The numbers include multiple contenders eyeing top spots, three mayoral applicants in Belize City alone, along with eighteen council hopefuls. In the capital, Belmopan, the race is also heating up, with two mayoral bids and eleven council applications already submitted. Pitts says the early surge shows the party isn’t waiting around, it’s getting ready.

“We opened our applications to get ready for the municipal elections around February twenty-sixth and closed it about March thirty-first 2026 and guess what, if unu mih think Belizean nuh ready, the report we have gotten from our nomination chair show proof positive that there are a number of Belizeans ready to join with the UDP leadership to take down this PUP government. And so we received over ninety applications across the country and from the close of application season to now we have sent out our letter of acknowledgement and positive vetting to successful applicants. By the end of the week we will send the rest of our letters, because unfortunately everyone did not make it.”
The applications also included three full slates in Dangriga and full slates in Orange Walk, Punta Gorda, Benque, San Pedro and Corozal.
