Sports Day Highlights Belize Police Week 2026
It’s not all work and patrols for the Belize Police Department this week, it’s also time to celebrate. Police Week 2026 rolled into high gear today with a lively sports day at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex, where officers traded uniforms for jerseys and friendly competition took center stage. But beyond the games, the event is part of a broader effort to boost morale and recognize the men and women behind the badge. We stopped in to hear from CEO Elton Bennett on the significance of the celebration and what’s still ahead for the rest of Police Week.

“It certainly has been a very active week, leading up to our final events. This is the final social activity, but we still have a couple more activities to go leading into tomorrow where we recognize some of the parters that we have worked with over the past year, some of the members of the civil community that have contributed significantly to the police department and the success. What we are doing here today is to take time from the regular routine of hard policing, coming together as a department and socializing in sports. This is all a part of our moral and welfare attempt at trying to provide a conducive environment for our officers to flourish. What is happening here is the culmination of a series of events that started a few weeks now, where the different formations from across the country were playing different sports, leading up to the finals today.”
Today’s sports day event included football, basketball, cycling, track and field and dominoes.
