Ground has officially broken on a new pre-primary and primary school in the Black Water area of Trial Farm village. This one marks the second major rural education investment in Orange Walk District in just over a week.

According to a government-issued statement, the facility “directly addresses the need for accessible early childhood and primary education in the region” and aims to “unlock brighter future opportunities for youth across Black Water and its surrounding communities”.

The project is a joint effort between the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology and the Caribbean Development Bank, with consultant Anthony Thurton & Associates Ltd and contractor Kee-Chanona Ltd carrying out the build.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Minister of State Ramon Cervantes, Caribbean Development Bank Portfolio Manager for the Social Sector Division Elbert Ellis, and other project officials.

The groundbreaking follows last week’s inauguration of a $581,000 preschool in Santa Cruz Village, Orange Walk, funded through a partnership between the Belize Social Investment Fund, the Caribbean Development Bank, and the Ministry of Education. That facility sits beside the Santa Cruz Government Primary School, inaugurated in October 2025, and completes a full early learning corridor for the community.
