Girls Hit the Court for Basketball, Mentorship, and Fun
The Ballin’ Like Her Girls Basketball Camp is back, and it is giving girls more than just time on the court. Now in its third year, the three-day camp brings together girls from preschool to college age for basketball, mentorship, confidence-building, and community. Participants are learning from former and current Division One athletes, while connecting with other young women in a fun and supportive space. Founder Cheyenne Givens says that is what the camp is all about: helping girls build skills, make friends, and believe in themselves. The camp wraps up tomorrow at The Hub in Belize City, and organizers say all girls are welcome to come out and join the action.

“We’re using the sport of basketball, and we’re specifically focusing on young females, um, providing a space for them, a community for them to enjoy basketball, learn about basketball, make friends. We’re just making an impact on their lives in any way that we can, whether that’s they wanna learn more from us in terms of basketball or they wanna make friends, whichever one. We’re here. We wanna let them know that we care about them and we care about their futures.”

“We’re here to build community. At the end of the day, we want them to have fun. We also know it’s summer, so at the end of the day, it’s like, come enjoy basketball. We’re here to support you. We’re here to have fun. We wanna be able to teach you some life skills as well, because at the end of the day, this is what we’re here to do. We’re all here to build community. So, I’m grateful to be a part of this experience and we would love for girls to just share the news and just show up.”

“ We was at the hub today, and we’re at the hub tomorrow. The camp runs from nine to three. They can reach out through our, through our Instagram, reach out through Miss Chanelle. We have all outlets where they can reach out to, but as far as reaching out to us, we also want them to reach out to their friends. Spread the word. Spread the word. As we spread the word to them, we want them to spread the word for us as well.”
The Camp kicked off on Tuesday in Cayo before moving to Belize City and may expand to other parts of the country in the coming years.
