Super Nationals Ends After Two Weeks of Competition
After two weeks of spirited competition, Belize’s inaugural Super Nationals have officially come to an end. More than eight hundred primary and high school student athletes from all six districts took part in the national games, competing in a range of sporting disciplines while showcasing their talent and district pride. Minister of Sports Anthony Mahler says the successful debut has laid a strong foundation for what he expects will become one of the country’s premier youth sporting events. He says this year’s competition is only the beginning, with even bigger plans already on the horizon.

“The Super Nationals Has taken the best or some of the best from all across the country in high school and in primary school. Last week we had a primary school competition that took place. So over the last two weeks, we had close to eight hundred young athletes participating and competing in their disciplines at the highest level. And this is a vision that Minister Devin Daly and I have and our entire team, that we want to put the best people, to give them the best opportunity to do their best. Now, it’s not always about sports. Sports teaches you life skills that you need in your daily life. Not all of you will want to play some role or professional anything. So whatever you learn from the field, from the court, from wherever track, you’ll use in your daily life. And never forget this. Each of you in here has an opportunity to use sports as a beacon to educate yourself. This is just the start. I can attest to you that Minister Daley and our team will put more effort and more resources to ensure that next year’s Super National is much better and at a higher quality. We’ll see you next year. And the goal is to start bringing in scouts to look at you, to take you outside of Belize so that you can get even better training and you can go as far as you want to go.”
The disciplines featured in the inaugural Super Nationals were football, volleyball, basketball and athletics. The National Sports Council plans to include additional sports in 2027.
