A Day of Celebration in the City
Belize City is getting ready for another major September tradition as the Belize City Council prepares to host its annual 10th Bram on Thursday, September 10th.
Joining Open Your Eyes were Michelle Smith, Communications at the Belize City Council; Melecia McDougall, Marketing Manager; and Belizean performers Britney Starr and Cocono Bwai, who shared what residents can expect from this year’s celebration.
The event will take place at Lord’s Plaza, directly behind Memorial Park, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and is free to the public.
Family Fun, Food and Entertainment
The 10th Bram is designed as a family-friendly celebration, with activities planned throughout the day for both children and adults.
Attendees can look forward to a food court, giveaways, patriotic competitions, and a dedicated kids’ zone featuring free snow cones and cotton candy, along with a bouncy house, trampoline, and car rides.
The event will also coincide with the annual September 10 parade, which will end at the plaza, bringing an additional wave of residents and visitors into the celebration.
Celebrating Belizean Artists
A major focus of this year’s Bram is local entertainment, with a lineup featuring Belizean artists including Britney Starr, Cocono Bwai, Ernestine Carballo, Bum & Chime – The Second Generation, Mime Martinez, Chico Ramos, Sweet Pain Band, and others.
Britney Starr said audiences can expect an energetic performance, including her new song “Broke Out.” For Cocono Bwai, the event is another opportunity to represent Belizean culture through music and showcase new material.
Both artists emphasized the importance of having platforms where Belizean performers can connect with audiences throughout the year.
A Celebration of Belize City
For the performers, the 10th Bram carries particular significance as a celebration of Belize City and Belizean identity.
Britney Starr reflected on returning home after spending time in the United States and explained that Belize City remains deeply important to her. Cocono Bwai similarly emphasized his commitment to keeping his music rooted in Belizean culture and maintaining his own musical style.
The event also provides an opportunity for visitors—including tourists arriving by cruise ship—to experience how Belize City celebrates its history, culture, and independence.
Free Entertainment for the Community
The 10th Bram is being presented as a free community event, allowing families to enjoy an entire day of entertainment and activities without an admission fee.
Performances are expected to begin after 2:00 p.m. and continue until the event concludes at 8:00 p.m. The celebration will also be livestreamed for those who cannot attend in person.
With the parade, food, family activities, and a full lineup of Belizean performers, the Belize City Council is inviting residents to make the 10th Bram part of their September 10 celebrations.
