Son Accused of Killing His Father

Twenty-four-year-old Leonardo Tzub of San Jose Village, Toledo District, has been charged with the murder of his father, Eusebio Tzub, following a fatal machete attack.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Head of the National Crimes Investigation Branch, confirmed the charge as police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing.

Eusebio was reportedly attacked outside his home on Wednesday afternoon and later succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the Punta Gorda Hospital.

His son-in-law, Luis Choc, said he was in Belmopan when his wife called to alert him to the attack. “I receive a call from her telling me that, ‘Call the police, call the police. My dad just got chopped,’” Choc recounted.

Choc said Eusebio had returned home with his wife after they went to the river. His mother-in-law was preparing food while Eusebio sat outside relaxing when the attacker allegedly approached and chopped him.

According to Choc, his mother-in-law told him that Eusebio had been struck on the head and hand with a machete. She tried to protect her husband from further harm before a resident helped transport him to the Punta Gorda Hospital.

Choc described his father-in-law as a humble and respectful man, and the family is struggling to cope with the loss and is coming together to support Eusebio’s wife.
