Coast Guard Officer Accused in Brutal Stabbing

On the eve of the Sixteen Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a shocking case of domestic brutality has shaken a Belize City neighborhood, and the accused is a member of the Belize Coast Guard. Police say a violent argument inside a Gibnut Street home ended with a woman stabbed multiple times and rushed to the hospital. Tonight, as the country prepares to spotlight violence against women, ASP Stacy Smith shares what officers found when they arrived.

“Police was alerted via the control room of an ongoing domestic dispute at a residence on Gibnut street, Belize City. The officers proceeded to that location and upon their arrival they were advised by a male occupant of that property that his common-law-wife was in the room. Police officers were led to that room where they observed a female with several apparent stab wounds to her body and in a semi conscious state. She was immediately transported to the Karl Heusner memorial hospital where she remains now in a stable condition.”
