Belize Kriol Dictionary App Now Available

The Belize Kriol Dictionary has officially gone digital, making it easier than ever for users to explore and learn. The new mobile app is now available for free download on the Google Play Store for Android devices.

Users can simply search for “Belize Kriol Dictionary” in the Play Store to install the app. Once downloaded, the app allows users to input English words, such as “pretty”, and instantly receive the Kriol translation (“priti”), complete with sample sentences in both languages. This tool is designed to support language learning and cultural preservation, especially among younger generations and educators.

According to the National Kriol Council, the development of the app was made possible through the voluntary efforts of the SIL Dictionary and Lexicography Services Unit. In addition to the mobile version, the dictionary remains freely accessible online via the Ministry of Education’s 501Academy platform.

As the National Kriol Council puts it, “Wan wan okro ful baaskit”, every little bit helps as it encourages the public to spread the word.
