Belize Steps Up to Guide Regional Education Agenda
Belize is stepping into a leadership role that could shape how students learn and how culture is preserved across the region. The country has just taken over the rotating presidency of CECC/SICA, putting it at the forefront of regional decisions on education and cultural development. With that comes influence and responsibility. Minister of State for Education, Ramon Cervantes, made it clear Belize plans to hit the ground running. Representing the country at the meeting, he laid out a people-centered agenda, one that focuses on making education accessible to every learner, boosting culture as a driver of national development, and accelerating digital transformation in schools. Cervantes pointed to ongoing local efforts, including the 501 Academy initiative, as proof that the country is already experimenting with innovative approaches to digital learning, experience it now hopes to share across the region. Now, with the presidency in hand, Belize’s role shifts from participant to coordinator. Over the next six months, the country will guide the implementation of regional agreements, pushing forward initiatives aimed at improving education quality, promoting cultural development, and deepening collaboration among Central American nations.
