Brazen Daylight Shooting in Downtown Belize City
Belize City resident Kiffer McKenzie was shot on Albert Street around 10:00 this morning.
Reports say gunfire broke out near the corner of Orange Street, after which McKenzie’s vehicle continued a short distance before crashing into a parked car in front of the Belize Bank Business Centre.
Officers responded and removed McKenzie from the vehicle before rushing him to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH), where his condition remains unknown.
Following the incident, Douglas Hyde, National Youth Program Coordinator for the Belize Police Department, posted a message on social media expressing shock and sadness.
“This is really sad, sad,” Hyde wrote. “I just called your name to the Director of LIU for us to bring Kiffer McKenzie on as a Program Coordinator in LIU new restructuring.”
Hyde described McKenzie as someone who frequently approached him about expanding sports programmes in Majestic Alley and surrounding communities.
“You are one of the guys who highly respected me and anywhere you saw me you would hail ‘Mr. Doug we need to do more sports,’” he added.
