Briceño Confident Belmopan’s University Hospital Will Be Delivered
And speaking of hospital construction, where does Belize stand on its long-promised Belmopan Hospital? It’s been three years since Prime Minister John Briceño signed that ninety-million-dollar agreement with the Saudi Fund for Development to build the new facility. So, what’s the holdup? According to the Prime Minister, projects of this scale don’t happen overnight. He says the process is moving along, even if it’s not as fast as some would like. Still, Briceño is expressing confidence, saying he expects the hospital to be completed before the end of his administration’s current term.
Prime Minister John Briceño
“It is a long process, because here we are dealing with a country with billions of dollars and lots of projects across the world. Here we have a country where this si a drop in the bucket for them and for us it is a big deal. We have been working with them and the plans. The plans have been finalized. We are working on opening up another entrance from the back, coming from where the Ministry of Lands is, so that we can have two entrances to that. I think we are beginning the bidding process shortly. So we are expecting to finish that before the end of this term.”
The facility is also expected to function as a University Hospital.
