Cabinet Hears BTL, PUC and SSB, But Wants More

Cabinet has heard the arguments, but it is not ready to call the shot just yet. Minister of Public Utilities Michel Chebat says ministers are expected to take a position next Tuesday on BTL’s proposed acquisition. But after presentations from BTL, the Public Utilities Commission and the Social Security Board, Chebat says Cabinet still needs more information before making a final decision.

Michel Chebat, Minister of Public Utilities

“I think they made a very comprehensive presentation, but we are still awaiting some additional information before a final decision is made.”

“So are you satisfied with the presentation today?”

Michel Chebat

“We had three separate presentations. I think they were all good. But like I said, we are still waiting for additional information.”

Paul Lopez

“Do you hold to your initial position that this is not a monopoly being created? You said that initially.”

Michel Chebat

“I said that to the data. As you know, the current system is also providing for what they call MVNOs. So that will also deal with the monopolies in terms of telecommunications.”

Reporter

“We understand that next week Tuesday the Cabinet will make a decision. Are you prepared to make your decision?”

Michel Chebat

“Hopefully by the time Tuesday comes around, we will have enough information upon which a decision can be made.”

Reporter

“Would you be able to disclose to us what is lacking?”

Michel Chebat

“No, not at this time.”
