Christy Guzman Out on $9,000 Bail

Christy Guzman is out on bail after spending 30 days in custody. The 21-year-old was granted bail on Thursday, October 2, by the High Court. Justice Nigel Pilgrim approved the application brought by her lawyer, Hurl Hamilton.

Guzman must report to the Belmopan Police Station twice a week. She is also to appear in the Belmopan Magistrate’s Court on November 7 and any other dates the court sets.

She has handed over all travel documents to the High Court and must stay in Belize unless the court gives permission for her to leave.

She must not interfere with Crown witnesses and must not get arrested again while on bail.

Guzman is charged with manslaughter after being accused of shooting and killing 28-year-old Wilson Hernandez on August 31. The shooting happened during a domestic dispute between Hernandez and his partner, 37-year-old Dalia Vellos.

Surveillance video shows Vellos and Guzman handling the licensed gun before the shot was fired.
