Construction Worker Murdered in Belize City

A Belize City construction worker was shot and killed on Thursday night. Police reported that the initial investigation indicates that 29-year-old Jamal Samuels “was sitting outside of #24 Cet Site, Belize City, along with a group of male persons when a dark in color vehicle stopped in front of the yard.”

The three occupants, all dressed in dark clothing, stepped out and fired several shots before fleeing the scene, police added.

Samuels was rushed to KHMH with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at 8:30 p.m. Scenes of Crime Technician Medina processed the scene, recovering spent shells and blood swabs.

The killing came less than two hours after bartender and mother of three Salma Raquel Orellana Funez was shot dead at Da Buzz Lounge on the Phillip Goldson Highway. There is no indication that the two incidents are related. However, reports on the ground suggest an internal feud in the Cet Site area may have led to this latest shooting.

The Belize Police Department is expected to update the media later today.
