Education Ministry Tackles Controversial Hair Rules
The debate over school hair rules isn’t going away just yet, but this week, Education Minister Oscar Requena sat down with parents, students, and teachers to tackle the issue head-on. The meeting gave everyone a chance to speak openly about the challenges and concerns surrounding these policies. And the good news is that a plan is now in place to work through the matter during this school year, with hopes of putting the controversy to rest before the next one. Here’s what Minister Requena had to say.

“Certainly we had a very good meeting. Several stakeholders were present. We had a very good discussion, a platform on which we confirmed that there are concerns that parents, students and educators have in relation to the grooming of hair. What we established as a group is that there is an urgent need to review the existing school rules and policies with a view to creating a platform where the whole issue of student grooming, hair policy, can be developed in a way that it is going to take into account essential values of our students, essentially promoting essential life skills and values that is not going to infringe on the rights of any child in relation to the hair or any other consideration.”
