Espat Backs Broaster’s Move to Integrity Commission

There’s a new reaction tonight to the latest move in the growing Mira controversy, and it’s coming from inside government. Acting Minister of Home Affairs Julius Espat is responding to Edward Broaster’s decision to take his allegations to the Integrity Commission. Espat says he has no issue with the complaint being filed, emphasizing that the system is there for exactly this purpose. In his view, if Broaster believes his claims have merit, then the Commission should be allowed to do its job and determine the facts, letting the investigation, not the politics, deliver the answers.

“That is a personal call, a political call, he has the right. He has thrown his hat into the arena, so kudos to him. Democracy allows you to do those things, so if you are intelligent enough, brave enough, if you believe that is the way to go and you are allowed to do it, and he knows, he was a police officer so he knows more than most what can and cannot be done. Personally I do not have a problem with it. The system is there to be used. And if he believes he has merit then we will find out. That is what I believe is important.

News Five will be tracking whether the Integrity Commission moves forward with an investigation based on Broaster’s complaint.
