Excessive Rainfall Warning: Another 2 to 4 Inches Possible in the Next 24 Hours
An excessive rainfall warning is in effect for Belize, with an additional two to four inches of rain possible over some areas during the next 24 hours or so. Residents are advised to monitor the weather situation and stay tuned to official updates.
The warning comes with the forecast issued at 6 a.m. Saturday. It follows a flood alert issued Friday by the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Climate Change, which warned of two to four inches of rain over four days, and of flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Moist and unstable conditions associated with a trough of low pressure will continue to support showery weather. Skies will be mostly cloudy today and tonight. Showers, light rain and a few thunderstorms will continue mostly offshore this morning and spread to most areas by this afternoon. Tonight, showers, light rain and isolated thunderstorms will mostly affect coastal and offshore areas.
A small craft caution is also in effect. Winds may become gusty during heavy showers or thunderstorms, producing locally rough seas, and small craft operators should exercise caution. Winds will blow from the northeast to east at 5 to 15 knots, with a light chop and waves of 2 to 4 feet.
Flood Alert in Effect: Up to 4 Inches of Rain Possible Over the Next Four Days
On Sunday, skies will be partly cloudy to cloudy. A few showers, periods of light rain and isolated thunderstorms are likely over most areas, then mainly along the coast Sunday night.
Temperatures along the coast will range from 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 Celsius) to 78 (26). Inland, they will range from 90 (32) to 74 (23), and in the hills from 78 (26) to 68 (20).
