Frankfurt Flight Opens Europe Market

A Frankfurt to Belize service is set to begin in December 2027, but it will not be a nonstop trip. The flight will stop in Costa Rica before continuing to Belize, and that stop has people talking. Some have questioned why travelers from Europe have to go through Costa Rica before reaching Belize, and whether a stop takes the shine off a link that was billed as direct. Tourism officials see it differently. We asked Director of Tourism Evan Tillett where they stand.

“I think that it allows you to get from Europe to Belize in a day. And I think that is a significant step forward for Belize. The work that we have put in behind the scenes in order to get to this point, I think is significant and it shows the confidence in the Belize tourism product that we are able to get a European flight. In my opinion, it has always been the Achilles heel for real growth from Europe, and I think we now have an opportunity to really push from a marketing perspective a private sector perspective, to grow tourism and continue the diversification in the European markets.”

The Government of Belize is investing two million dollars to secure the Frankfurt-Belize route.
