Gamboa’s School Supply Initiative Gains Momentum
Superintendent Gamboa’s outreach in the Mahogany Street community continues to inspire new acts of generosity. He revealed that a caller recently offered to contribute school supplies to ensure children begin the year prepared. The initiative has now attracted support from The Angelus Press, with additional donations expected in the coming days. For many parents struggling to make ends meet, this effort brings welcome relief and encouragement at the start of the academic year.

Support for Superintendent Gamboa continues to grow as another donor has come forward with books, pencils, and erasers for students. Gamboa expressed gratitude and confirmed that The Angelus Press has also joined his school supply drive, with more donations expected later this week. Earlier today, dozens of children gathered near the Complex Building, their faces beaming as they received essential school items. For many single-parent households, this initiative provides a much-needed lifeline as the academic year begins.

“I am here outside again with a special young man that blessed the kids in ‘set-site’ aka they call it ‘gungulung’ and he called me on the phone and said that he wanted to bless the kids in this area so this is big for him for the kids and for all, I believe that children need the help so I appreciate the help from Mr. Espinal so I want to tell him thanks and also Said Perdomo to make it as big as this and I appreciate it”

“And the bags that you were giving away in the beginning do you still have those famous fake JanSport bags?”

“Like I said we passed that stage already those bags are given out already to the different area of Southside that is done its finished now”
Local business owner Inmas Espinal, who grew up in the area, has joined Superintendent Gamboa’s school supply initiative. Espinal said he remembers wishing for help as a child and now wants to give back by donating supplies to kids in need.

“The only reason I did this is because me personally growing up I didn’t have anything; I didn’t have no support I didn’t have no one to come and say oh you need this here you go and looking at the action Mr. Gambis was doing it was something that I was amazed so you know afterwards we started to hear about the backlash the only thing is that I just wanted to give something I don’t have a big company, I don’t win millions of dollars but I would appreciate that when I was growing up someone would say hey here’s this here’s that you know that’s the only reason I am doing this I a doing this out of my heart I have kids I have my own son I have daughters and if I was in the time I needed help and someone issue me even if it was a dollar shoes it would still be more for me and the family it would be much appreciated. There’s a lot of Chinese stores there are a lot of stores around stores that most of us from back here contribute to the stores and we never hear hey you know what lets give something to the kids lets give something to ‘gungulung’ and like I said I am just doing something out of my own will.”
Gamboa, who has led the Special Patrol Unit in this area for eight years, knows the struggles families face here. He understands the impact of even the smallest donation and says he’s committed to supporting the community for as long as he wears the badge. Tanya Arceo for News Five
