GOB Launches $10 Million Solar Water Project in Four Villages
The government on Friday launched a $10 million project that will bring solar-powered water systems to households in the Toledo and Corozal Districts.
The initiative, called the Securing Water Resources through Solar Energy and Innovative Adaptive Management project, or SEAM, is funded through the Adaptation Fund.
It will target four communities, Boom Creek, Dolores, and Otoxha in the Toledo District, along with Copper Bank in Corozal, where access to reliable water remains a challenge.
More than 1,800 residents are expected to benefit directly over the next five years.
The SEAM project was approved in 2025 at the Adaptation Fund’s 45th Board Meeting in Bonn, Germany, and is being positioned as a model that could eventually be scaled to other rural communities across the country facing similar water-security challenges.
PACT will oversee the project, while the Ministry of Rural Transformation will lead implementation, with work already started in some villages.
