How Intelligence Stopped the Neuland Drug Flight

After the headlines and flashing lights, we’re now taking you inside the operation itself. Following Monday night’s joint law‑enforcement briefing on the major drug plane bust in Neuland, we’re learning more about how authorities pulled it off. Officials say the interception was no accident, it was the result of solid intelligence, tightly coordinated enforcement, and critical support from international partners. According to Commissioner of Police Dr. Richard Rosado, even the United States government played a key role, underscoring how cross‑border cooperation helped stop illegal drugs before they could move through Belize.

“Our successful operation indicates that Belize is not a transit route for illegal drugs. We have the intelligence, partnership and capability to detect, to track and intercept. So, we have the capabilities.”

“How has our U.S counterparts responded to this bust?”

Dr. Richard Rosado

“Well, they have been a partners for us. They have been a partner throughout from the initial interception to the conclusion of the arrest. So they have been a supporting agency. Whenever a declaration is made for an illicit track, all the law enforcement agencies, all the security forces agencies, the operational units directly engage and automatically reports to the JIAC for coordination, and this includes the Custom Department. This is the first time you are seeing perfect coordination from the security forces, the law enforcement agency so we are working in unison and coordinating operations.”
