Labour Officers Awarded for Work Across Belize

The Labour Department held its first annual awards ceremony on Friday, recognising officers and regional offices that went above and beyond in carrying out the department’s work throughout 2025.

Labour Commissioner Rissela Dominguez Patt told attendees the event was an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of staff whose work often goes unseen.

“Every day our officers are called upon to resolve complaints, to conduct inspections, to educate employers, to support job seekers,” Dominguez Patt said. “Today’s ceremony provides us with an opportunity to recognise those individuals and regions whose efforts have gone beyond and above in advancing the mission of the department.”

Awards were presented across several categories, including employment placement services, labour inspections, labour rights education, claims resolution and strategic support.

Labour Minister Kareem Musa said the ceremony was about more than individual recognition. He pointed to the department’s growing presence across the country, with officers conducting education sessions at schools and ITVET institutions to introduce young people to labour rights and workplace expectations before they enter the workforce.

“It warms my heart each time I see students being engaged and becoming familiar with the workforce and its demands via the sessions conducted by our very own labour officers,” Musa said.

He added, “The work that we do together as a collective is how the country of Belize views the success of our Labour Department.”
