Maria Arthurs Sworn In as Contractor General
At a time when questions surrounding government contracts are dominating national headlines, Belize has officially sworn in a new Contractor General.
Maria Arthurs took the oath of office before Governor-General Dame Froyla Tzalam, beginning a three-year term as the country’s Contractor General.
Arthurs assumes responsibility for an office tasked with monitoring the award and implementation of public contracts to ensure that government projects and procurements are carried out impartially, on merit, and in accordance with the law.
The Office of the Contractor General serves as one of the country’s key accountability mechanisms, helping to promote transparency and good governance in the management of public resources. The office is also responsible for monitoring whether public contracting processes are being conducted fairly and in compliance with established regulations.
Arthurs officially begins her tenure effective immediately.
