Nepotism Allegations? Police CEO Says That’s Just “Noise in the Market”

As nepotism allegations against the Minister of Home Affairs, Oscar Mira, continue to swirl, today his Chief Executive Officer, Rear Admiral Elton Bennett, spoke with News 5.

Bennet said Minister Mira remains focused on his duties and is not distracted by what he described as “noise in the market”.

“From what I see, the noise out there has little or no impact on his ability to provide leadership to the ministry,” Bennett said.

He added that operations within the Ministry of Home Affairs continue as normal, including work involving the Police Department and forensic services, and said he and the minister remain in regular contact.

When asked whether the allegations affect his own efforts to rebuild public confidence and trust in law enforcement, Bennett was equally dismissive. “No, not at all,” he said. “I don’t see the connection, and I don’t see there is any question as it relates to trust and the integrity of the minister at all.”

Minister Mira has not responded to media requests for comment. He has previously issued a single Facebook post dismissing the allegations as “lies and misinformation“.
