Creating Opportunities for Women-Led Businesses

On today’s episode of Open Your Eyes, Katya Montenegro, Founder and President of the International Network of Women in Business (NIME), discussed the launch of the NIME Impact Lab Incubator, a new initiative aimed at helping women entrepreneurs strengthen and scale their businesses.

Montenegro explained that the incubator was developed through the Connect Caribbean ecosystem, following discussions among regional organizations that support entrepreneurship. Recognizing that many women business owners continue to face barriers to growth, the program was designed to provide access to business development training, mentorship, and resources that can help entrepreneurs become more resilient and investment-ready.

Addressing Barriers Through Mentorship and Training

A key focus of the incubator is helping women overcome challenges related to accessing financing. Montenegro noted that while many entrepreneurs seek funding opportunities, preparation is essential before businesses can effectively secure and utilize investment. The five-month program aims to equip participants with the skills, knowledge, and strategic planning necessary to position their businesses for growth.

One of the standout features of the NIME Impact Lab Incubator is its one-on-one mentorship component. Beyond supporting entrepreneurs, the initiative is also inviting educators, consultants, professionals, and experienced business owners to apply as mentors. According to Montenegro, mentors play a critical role by providing guidance, asking thoughtful questions, challenging business models, and encouraging entrepreneurs throughout their journey.

Supporting Sustainable and Socially Responsible Enterprises

The incubator is specifically targeting women-led businesses that are operating between three and five years and are focused on sustainability, climate resilience, and social responsibility. However, Montenegro encouraged women who may not fully meet the criteria to still apply, as each application will be reviewed individually during the selection process.

She also highlighted the importance of mentorship relationships, noting that many previous NIME programs have fostered lasting professional connections and friendships between mentors and entrepreneurs. These relationships often extend beyond technical business advice, creating valuable support systems that contribute to long-term success.

Applications Open Ahead of July Selection Process

Applications for both entrepreneurs and mentors are currently open through NIME’s website and social media platforms. Interested applicants can complete a straightforward online form outlining information about their business or professional experience.

The selection process will take place in July, with successful applicants expected to begin a five-month incubation journey focused on business growth, leadership development, and entrepreneurial success. Through the NIME Impact Lab Incubator, the organization hopes to continue empowering women across Belize and the Caribbean while strengthening the region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
