NTUCB Wants New Representation for Small Shareholders in BTL Board

The National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB), alongside several affiliate unions, is backing former BTL employee Erven Marin to replace Eric Eusey at BTL’s Annual General Meeting on September 17th.

“Marin, a former BTL employee with over 32 years of service, has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to open communication, accountability, and integrity,” NTUCB said.

The umbrella union’s support for Marin is a direct challenge at Eusey’s current leadership in the board, who according to BTL’s website is ” the longest serving member of BTL’s Board of Directors.”

Reports indicate that Eusey previously voted in favour of BTL’s acquisition of Speednet/Smart.

Several unions, including the Belize Communication Workers Union, Belize National Teachers’ Union, Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Authority Workers Union and Public Service Union, are themselves small shareholders in BTL.

The push effectively puts the small-shareholder seat up for a contested vote and gives shareholders an opportunity to decide whether Eusey should retain the position or whether Marin should take over as their representative on the BTL board.
