“My Baby Gaan From Me Too Quick”: Jaheim Sanchez Shot Dead
Twenty-one-year-old Jaheim Sanchez was killed in a shooting on T Street in Belize City, with his mother describing a son who had been trying to build a better life.
Sanchez’s mother, Shanice Ysaguirre, said she was at home when her partner told her that Jaheim had been shot. She rushed to the hospital, where she later learned that her son had died.
Ysaguirre said Jaheim had been trying to make changes in his life after the family moved from their previous neighbourhood. She said he told her he wanted to surround himself with people who would support him.
“I need to find friends who want to see me uplift,” she recalled him saying.
The loss has also reopened the family’s grief over another recent killing. Ysaguirre’s cousin, Brianna, was murdered on the night of August 31, and she said Jaheim was deeply affected when he learned that Brianna had been shot.
She said she visited Brianna at the morgue and told her to take care of her son.
“My baby gaan from me too quick,” Ysaguirre said.
