PACT, APAMO Sign Three-Year Agreement to Strengthen Protected Areas
The Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) and the Association of Protected Areas Management Organisations (APAMO) have renewed their partnership with the signing of a three-year strategic agreement aimed at strengthening the management of Belize’s protected areas.
The agreement commits PACT to continuing financial support for APAMO to strengthen the organisation’s capacity and expand support for the community-based and non-governmental organisations that co-manage many of Belize’s protected areas.
The new partnership outlines five priority areas: improving institutional governance, strengthening protected areas management and conservation, expanding financing options, increasing public education and advocacy, and improving APAMO’s long-term financial sustainability.
As part of the first year of implementation, the two organisations will focus on strengthening governance and operations, developing a sustainable financing strategy for APAMO, expanding technical and administrative support through the APAMO Central Resource Centre, and increasing public engagement on protected areas conservation.
The agreement also aligns with APAMO’s recently signed Memorandum of Understanding with the National Biodiversity Office, which is intended to support national biodiversity conservation efforts and improve the management of Belize’s National Protected Areas System.
