PM Briceño Presses Saudi Arabia on Stalled Energy Project
A stalled energy project was among the issues Prime Minister John Briceño raised during a brief meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Finance. The Saudi Fund project was expected to support Belize’s energy sector, but progress has been delayed. Briceño says he used the opportunity to press for answers and left the discussion with a commitment from the Saudi minister to investigate what is holding up the project.

“I did meet the Minister of Finance and we had a very small meeting. A very interesting meeting with Mr. Clarke, Jack Clarke, one of the founders of Anthropic. I was invited to a one on one meeting with him, it was only about seven of us. It was a fascinating meeting and the Minister of Finance from Saudi Arabia was there and I managed to bring it up. And he is not aware of all the ins and outs of it and he assured me that he is going to take a look at it and we believe that pretty soon we will see some action with that project.”
The Saudi Fund energy agreement is valued at seventy-seven U.S. million dollars.
