Police Mobilize To Control Silk Grass

A violent confrontation in Silk Grass Village that was captured on video and circulated widely on social media has caught the attention of police. The footage shows a group of men beating a woman, prompting calls from residents for a stronger police presence in the community. Police say arrests have since been made in connection with two separate incidents, including allegations of assaulting a police officer. But the response is not stopping with arrests. The Community Policing Unit has also been tasked with visiting Silk Grass to work with residents and establish a neighborhood watch group. ASP Stacy Smith says effective policing requires cooperation from both law enforcement and the community.

“As it relates to the incidents that occurred in Silk Grass that has, you know, made their way on social media, I can advise that arrests have been made for both disorderly conduct and assaulting a police officer in relation to those two incidents. I know there has been calls from members of that village for increased police presence, and certainly that concern is acknowledged by the department, and we continue to assess our deployments to see how best we can address that. However, I will similarly like to take this opportunity to invite the residents of Silk Grass to see how better they can assist police in our policing efforts. Efficient policing is better strengthened when we have community that– a community that looks after itself as well and plays a role. Um, I’ve also been advised that the Community Policing Unit has been tasked to make visits in that area to see how best we can mobilize a community group in – neighborhood watch group in that area.”

 

Residents of Silk Grass say they have been concerned for some time about a delinquent group of young men harassing people in the village.
