Police Officer Shot by BDF Soldier
A police officer and a BDF soldier are both recovering at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City after an argument between the two turned violent in Lemonal Village, Belize River Valley, on Sunday, police say.
ACP Hilberto Romero, Head of the National Crimes Investigation Branch, told reporters that Police Constable Pharon Musla and BDF soldier Lance Corporal Alexander Reynolds were attending a repass shortly after midnight when a dispute erupted between them. Both men were off-duty at the time of the incident.
“The information is they were drinking,” Romero said.
According to ACP Romero, Musla allegedly chopped Reynolds to the head before Reynolds pulled out his licensed personal 9-millimetre firearm and opened fire.
However, according to early investigations conducted by the BDF, the firearm Reynolds used was a 0.380 pistol registered to a female.
Musla sustained multiple gunshot injuries and was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for treatment. Reynolds was also hospitalised for injuries sustained during the confrontation.
“They are both at the KHMH receiving treatment. They are both in stable condition,” Romero said. “A thorough investigation will be carried out to determine charges.”
