PUP Convention Nears as Mayoral Contest Intensifies

Belize City’s PUP delegates are preparing to make a major political choice. On August thirtieth, they will decide whether Councilor Eluide Miller or Councilor Allan Pollard will carry the party’s banner in the next municipal race. Foreign Affairs Minister Francis Fonseca is already backing Miller, and as the convention draws closer, the internal campaign is beginning to intensify. We asked Fonseca how preparations are shaping up ahead of the closely watched vote.

“I’m supporting Miller. Eluide Miller. Well, the convention is set. As you know the national executive set a date for it. It’s August thirtieth. So, I think the delegates list will be prepared, um, and submitted sometime this week. And then, you know, the campaign proceeds over the next few weeks to engage with those delegates and we move forward from there.”

 

Across the board, the People’s United Party has a wealth of aspiring candidates, with a total of one hundred and fifteen hopefuls applying to run in the upcoming municipal elections.
